How ReCover Works
Develop the habit
of living with clear intentions
Care for your loved ones
Make a statement
Place the ReCover on your phone to show other people that they matter to you more than your phone.
Show them that you care for them, that they deserve your undivided attention.
Raise awareness on the problem.
Care for yourself
Habits
Make a deal with your future self.
You decide to use the ReCover to read in peace. When you see the ReCover on your phone, your will remember the commitment you made with yourself.
Be loyal to your values.
Dedicate your full attention to the things that truly matter.
When reading, give yourself some mental distance from your phone, placing the ReCover on the screen.
Peaceful nights
Most of us check our phones before sleeping, but also in the middle of the night when we awake.
Give yourself more care.
Leave the ReCover on your phone during the nights, or even place your phone in the ReCover bag.
Allow the nights to be for sleeping and disconnecting.
Focus
Constant distractions destroy the flow of work.
Prevent the inner an outer distractions related to your phone.
Again, you can place it inside the ReCover bag for extra mental distance.
Focus when it is time to focus.
Phone overuse is a problem that impacts our whole lives and relationships, therefore it requires a solution applicable for every different scenario.
Our attention is precious
Be careful where you spend it
- The ReCover creates a physical barrier.
- It gives you will extra Mind Time to better decide who you gift your attention.
- Notifications will also be covered.
- You can still see the time and date.
Place your phone inside the ReCover Bag for "Extra Free Phone Time"
You can use this option to studying, working, spending time with your family and friends or just to make a proper dopamine detox process (dopamine fasting).
Pro Tip: You can place more than one phone in the bag!
Every time you get the urge to enter your phone, ReCover reminds you to first set a clear intention on what you want to achieve while using your phone.
Ask yourself questions like:
- Is it really necessary to check my phone now?
- Why do I want to check my phone now?
- What am I going to do once I unlock it?
- Does it help me now?
If there is no (good) intention, then leave ReCover on and use your time in a more meaningful way.
If you decide to remove the ReCover to use your phone, you know it’s the result of a conscious choice. Then you can take the ReCover off and place it on the back of your phone.
ReCover should be on your phone "by default"
Repeated behaviour turns into habit.
ReCover helps you develop the habit of reflecting on your intentions before using your phone. It’s a conscious decision-making process.
If you decide to use your phone, take the ReCover off from the screen and conveniently place it on the back of your phone.
Switch the Auto-pilot Off
Do you find yourself automatically reaching for your phone without even thinking about it?
This automated habit, conditioned over time, can feel impossible to break.
The good news is: such behaviour can be reversed.
With ReCover, you can “unlearn” the behavior of checking your phone “just because.”
Start your journey to reclaim your attention and break free from the autopilot mode today.
How to set a clear intention
ReCover is the first solution which intervenes before you enter your phone
Reflecting on these questions, you can ensure you are using your phone in line with your true objectives and priorities.
Every time you feel the urge to pick up your phone, ReCover encourages you to set a clear intention. Ask yourself what you want to achieve while using your phone:
- Is it really necessary to check my phone now?
- Why do I want to check my phone now?
- What specific actions am I going to do in my phone?
- How does using my phone now help me achieve my bigger goals?
Your Accountability Partner. Anywhere, any time
ReCover is like a friend who is always with you, gently reminding you to consider your intentions anytime, anywhere.
It acts as a speedbump, prompting you to slow down and reflect on what you truly want to do.
By holding you accountable, ReCover helps you break free from automatic behaviors and make more mindful choices.
Regain control over your life
With ReCover, you will notice a reduced pickup rate and potentially screen time.
Screen time may still be high due to productive activities such as reading news, using workout apps or learning a new language.
ReCover’s primary goal is empowering you to consciously choose when and how to use your phone.
Works best in combination with
- Turning off all your notifications.
- Setting time limits.
- Apps or in built-in phone applications.
- Setting the phone to grey-scale.
ReCover's Design
ReCover is a light, portable cover with two grips on the sides to hold on to your smartphone protection case. If you don’t already have a smartphone case, you can also put ReCover directly on your phone. Then you will have to take one size smaller than the one we advise in our tool.
The reason why the ReCover does not cover the entire screen is of practical nature: firstly, when you put the ReCover on the back of your phone, it will not block your camera, so you can still take pictures. Secondly, you are able to see the time on your phone, depending on the model and settings you have. Of course, then you may see the screen light up and be triggered by notifications. If this bothers you, you can turn off notifications or put them into silent mode.
The main intention of ReCover is to limit the unnecessary initiation of the phone use.
*ReCover does not work on flip phones
Intervening our brain process
The reason why we are so attached to our smartphones is because they serve the desires of the human brain: novelty, excitement, and social connections.
Our interactions with the smartphone, receiving push notifications, likes and views, trigger the release of dopamine. This neurotransmitter is responsible for the pleasurable feelings of reward, which motivate us to repeat our behaviours.
Because it is so easy for us and because our brains are so conditioned to constantly receive these addictive feelings of reward, it is essential to target the root cause and to stop this brain process before we enter our phone. The good news is, we can unlearn this automatic, impulsive behaviour and create new, healthier habits.
If you are aware of your behaviour and are willing to fight for a positive change, ReCover is for you.
ReCover is the first solution of this kind because it acts as a physical boundary that intervenes before you even unlock the phone.
